Who has not played with magnets before? Did you ever think about how they attract or repel each other? Magnets are like magic! We have two parts or ends, called the north pole and south pole that keep it floating. Now, that we know the magic of magnets, let us look into how much we use them in our life.
What do you call the ends of a magnet? Visualise a bar magnet; you have north and south poles. North Pole = The finishing of the magnetSouth Pole = The beginning of the magnet It is like having the two sides of a coin. It is noted that magnets have north on one side and south on the other, somewhat like a coin has heads on one end and tails on the other. These different powers will cause them to attract or push away from one another. Remember- these poles are what make magnets unique!
One interesting thing happens when two magnets approach each other. They can attract (so they pull together) and repel (so they push apart) each other. Why does this happen? This is due to something termed magnetic force, which is most potent at the poles of the magnets. The north pole of one magnet and the south pole of another are attracted to each other. It is due to equal poles attract each other and similarly positive and negative charges from together. But if two north pts south come together they zone out each other. Because as two magnets would rather resist touching each other if they were both north poles given that like poles repel.
North pole and south pole can be seen working in many objects around us. Just consider the Earth, for instance. But in fact is a really big magnet. Our planet has a set of north and south poles, and the magnetic field that enfolds the Earth helps shield us from destructive rays that pass through space towards the sun. This magnetic field makes it safe for us to live here! Magnets are also used in day to day life for example to stick things like on refrigerator door magnets or even motors. A nifty little trick that you might have noticed in the way your fridge door closes so easily? That’s because of magnets! We also determine the direction with the help of magnetic compasses A compass, with a tiny magnet inside it pointing north, so we know the way. Isn’t that amazing?
Could we extract energy from magnets?! Yes, we can! They make this electricity that we use to go out by power all the things we need, every day of our lives. SP Books are special equipment called generators have wire coils and magnets. The spinning of the magnet causes a magnetic field to pass through the wire coils, generating electricity. We use it to get into our homes, schools and even cities. Just picture all those lights, computers and TVs requiring electricity. Not without the magnets and generators; none of this would be possible.
Medical: – In the medical field, magnets are used in MRI machine which is a special machine that helps doctors take pictures of the inside of our body. Doctors can use these pictures of how we look on the inside to discover what is wrong with us and then decide what they should do to make us better again.
Construction Area- Like in construction areas, things are huge and bulky so to lift them we use magnets. This is the picture which clicked in my mind thinking about what magnet -- magnets can be attached to cranes (those huge machines for lifting) and to lift metal things like steel beams and even cars. It enables workers to move heavy materials risk-free.
